DVD recording all 80+ DRW games every year on my VHS syste...

I have recorded all 80+ DRW games every year on my VHS system for 10+ years. This summer my latest VHS died and I've tried 3 DVD recorders for my new technology. My current Magnavox recorder with tuner (H2160MW9 A) only allows the LP speed (about 3 hrs/disk) in my trial runs so far. Any longer playing, the skating action shows a "ghost" effect when I play it back and that's unacceptabe. Being so new with technology, does anyone have a suggestion ~ like adding additional components,etc. I have to use Time-Warner cable service. My TV is Toshiba 32" and it's 8+ yrs. old but still has a great quality for viewing the games from cable.
