that's a crackup. I was zonin' when they pulled roy (kinda afraid to jinx the game actually) but it caught my attention when espn said that they forgot to get their extra man out there for quite a bit. what's the scoop on that? I didn't count them but it seems like it went unnoticed for a while before they got out there. was 'artley too flustered after the stick fiasco or did espn blow the coverage?

check it properly, and the Avs got bent over. Roy's reaction said it all. Everyone knew it.<<<

How do you know? If the stick was close or at the legal size, then the tape on it could have EASILY been the reason the measuring device stuck. I've got a used Cammalleri stick and there's no way you'd get one of those over it because of the exposed tape. Roy's reaction was hilarious. I'm curious though, how would Patty KNOW that Hasek's stick was illegal, being over 200 feet away from him. I'm sure if the sticking was because the stick was illegal the ref would've called it. Why would he not? You said earlier the stick was measured incorrectly, also...if that's the case, then wouldn't the fact that it stuck be irrelevant anyway?

<snip excellent reply>

I just wanted to say, that's the best post I've read out of any for quite some time. Thanks, and good luck to you on Friday. Do you know the name of a national oxygen tank company that rents out? I think we're all gonna need one on Friday.

Thanks. The nice thing about having the game in Detroit is that all the Wings fans have access to more oxygen. The Avs fans living in Colorado, on the other hand, should probably look into the oxygen tank rental.

Then again, I live at sea level and I was definitely having oxygen issues today.

You nailed very precisely how I feel, actually. It's only a children's game, corporately dressed up and given weight with its rich history and some cultural importance...it's hypnotizingly interesting to watch, but why do we get so hung up on it? Really? I like how you put that, especially when you said, 'I wish my mind would tell the rest of my body'...etc.

Very well said; I feel the same way.

The other problem I saw was the occasion where everybody is working so hard covering up the open man that nobody bothers to pick up .... the guy with the puck.

Having said that, there were 2 nifty stops made by Jiri Fischer on Forsberg. I'm in favor of this.

Okay, I'm not gonna bitch about everybody and their uncle prefacing their ref-whine with the phrase 'I'm not gonna bitch about the refs but ...'

The performances of De Vries and Duchesne qualifies as a 'What the ...?'.

One other Dman comment: watching the game again last night I just cracked up at some point in the second watching Kaspar and Homer tripping, hitting, punching, grabbing, etc. each other and a thought struck me: these 2 would be really fun to watch going at it during the regular season, when the only thing at stake is some skin off your nose.

My VCR was programmed for it yesterday morning. Last night at points when I was just watching Roy play without worrying about the outcome it was just sublime. He's so damn smooth. Compare him to CuJo who's a freaked-out twitchaholic, or Hasek who's just a freak (but was pretty smooth, too, I've got to admit). That non-save on Yzerman was just .... man.

That makes one of us. Dude, it's the Whale. Are you sure?

I'm just pissed that I recorded over game 3. I've got all the others.

I'm not going to bitch about you bitching about all the bitching, but.....

The surprising thing about Duchesne is that he's done almost nothing on the offensive end. Perhaps he figured the best way to keep his IT was to buckle down on D and hit a few people. He's been hitting a ton, relatively speaking, since the Vancouver series.

I've always appreciated Roy, but have developed a new appreciation for the team guy that Hasek is, at least on the ice. You'd be hard-pressed to find a goaltender in the league who talks to his team more on the ice (be it tips for the dmen or urging his team on) than Hasek. His on-ice tirade during the Vancouver series, where he was banging his stick on the ice and yelling at his guys not to drop back was classic. Best of all, it seemed to work.

They're both all-time great goaltenders, but Hasek remains the only goaltender I'd pay specifically to see play.

They beat two of my least favorite teams, the Devils and the Leafblowers. That makes them a nice story by default. Still odd to see the Whale in the finals.

I'm in favor of this.<<<

You must be mistaken. All Jiri Fischer does is cost the Red Wings goals and constantly take dumb penalties......or something......
