New Years Game Wings Vs Blackhawks At Wrigley

Rumor has it….well, not rumor but Christy says that the Minneapolis Star Tribune says that

According to an NHL source, the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings will participate in the league’s second outdoor Winter Classic on New Year’s Day.

The game will take place at Wrigley Field. An announcement is expected next week before the inaugural “Blackhawks Convention” at the Chicago Hilton.

Last New Year’s Day, the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Buffalo Sabres in a shootout in front of an NHL-record crowd of 71,217 at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

This is quite good news and it sounds like it would be a good game but as Christy points out - it will interfere with several other possibilities and traditions one of which is that in Detroit New Years is traditionally a Football holiday, Once again forcing the Detroit sports fans to pick between the teams and different games going on…
