Looking for some help. I might be able to get to Pittsburgh for the game Saturday and I have two questions. One, think it will be a problem to get a ticket at the arena on Saturday? If not is anybody familiar with where a good place to stay would be that isn't too far away and doesn't cost an arm and a leg? TIA

Well, I just happened to be in Pittsburgh in '95 or so and walked up and bought first round, first game, playoff tickets one hour before gametime. I was there for a week and caught the game on TV at Butya's, a great bar sort of near the airport (10 miles) About 3 years later, in November I bought a fistful of tickets at noon of gameday.
Don't know what it's like now or for the Wings, but I'd bet you're in.

That's what I'm thinking too. Any ideas of what areas of Pittsburgh I should avoid for a place to stay?? I'm probably going to stay somewhere south of town since I'll be coming from WV.

Last time I stayed right downtown right next to the convention center, someone else was paying the tab. Been too long to remember the name but about 15 minute walk to Igloo. If you don't know the city, which I don't, give yourself plenty of drive time. Seems I had a knack for always being on the wrong side of one of the rivers.

I just got back from Pittsburgh today, was there all weekend... Stay downtown, anywhere.. it's a good area (not like detroit) and Mellon arena is right downtown.
There's a Marriott right downtown that is very nice, check it out..

All the downtown places are booked up this weekend. Are the Wings THAT popular in Pittsburgh?? <g> Looks like if I do go I'll be driving in a few miles and using arena parking. Need to call tomorrow and see about a ticket.
Anyone been to Mellon Arena? Wonder how the balcony seats are? I like to sit in the end so I can watch plays form up.

As a followup to this thread. I called the Penguins ticket office today and was told it would not be a problem to get a ticket where I wanted. YEA! But I had to book a room at a local Red Roof Inn as nothing was available downtown. So I'll have to drive a whole ten miles to get to the arena. <g>
